Phi Phi Island

The islands off of Phuket are absolutely beautiful. We are currrently in Koh Phi Phi, which is located about an hour long ferry ride from the southern tip of Phuket. Our ferry ride was a speed boat that was not afraid of the incredibly rough ocean. My sea sick tendencies almost took over, but all in all, it was fun crusing straight into some of these massive waves.

Once we got to the island, we rode a long tail boat to Long Beach and swam and flopped around in the ocean for a couple hours.  The water is so clear you can see all the way down to the ocean floor when swimming. It’s incredible.

Next on our agenda was Bob’s Booze Cruise for Chris’ birthday. Essentially, we cruised around on a boat to multiple breathtaking bays and swam, snorkeled, and played with monkeys.

First stop on the cruise was Monkey Beach. It is located in a cove not too far from the coast line. We were all provided a handful of peanuts and jumped in the water. It was SO much fun. All you do is put your hand out with a peanut, and they snag it from your and and chow down. Then, they became curious and hopped on our backs and all over us. As long as you don’t make any sudden movements, they won’t bite. Hard pass on rabies. One point in time, I had about three monkeys crawling all over me.

Then we took off and explored a couple more bays, played in the water, snorkeled, and finally ended up a Maya Bay (where the movie The Beach was filmed). All in all, it was the most beautiful tour, checking out the icy blue waters (look, not feel—the water is so warm) and watching the sunset over the islands.

Moving onto darker pastures, Chase and I decided to be bold and book a bungalow room in the middle of the trees without AC. Quick refresher, April and May are the hottest months in Thailand… Last night was quite literallly unbearable between the stifling, sweaty heat and the mosquitoes attacking us because our room didn’t close from the outside completely. We ended up roaming around late at night to find another room with AC—struggled—but ended up finding one after some searching. Whoops. Lesson learned.

Now were sitting in front of a fan, chowing down some breakfast from our favorite place on the island, Charlie’s, and are going snorkeling off of Long Beach today at a place coined “Shark Point.” Wish us luck!
